We can’t see the forests without the trees

When I was a kid my grandfather told me that the strip mining companies throughout Western Kentucky were required to plant trees to replace any that they cut down when they dug their pits. To my young mind that seemed entirely reasonable. He also told me the companies weren’t always as responsible as they should be. I believed that, too.
